Mahoney Richmond Attorneys Named as Part of Virginia’s ‘Legal Elite’
Associate Attorney Nicole M. Thurston Makes Legal Elite Young Lawyer for the First Time
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Mahoney Richmond Thurston, PLLC is proud to announce that three of the firm’s attorneys have been named Virginia’s Legal Elite in 2018 by Virginia Business magazine.
In cooperation with the Virginia Bar Association, Virginia Business magazine, for the past 19 years, has asked lawyers throughout the Commonwealth to nominate the best in their profession in 18 practice categories. When the ballots were counted, MR&T Law Founding Partners Reeves W. Mahoney and Andrew T. Richmond and Associate Attorney Nicole M. Thurston were among those selected – Mr. Mahoney and Mr. Richmond in the family/domestic relations category, Ms. Thurston as a Young Lawyer (Under 40).

Mr. Mahoney’s areas of expertise include divorce/domestic relations (with an emphasis on divorces involving substantial assets and contested custody issues). Mr. Mahoney has repeatedly been elected by his peers to the Legal Elite list, Virginia Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers®, Coastal Virginia magazine’s Top Lawyers and he maintains an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He also recently was featured on the Virginia/West Virginia cover of Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Richmond adeptly resolves complex divorces involving the equitable distribution of complex assets, support and custody cases, through both contested litigation, negotiated agreements and the collaborative divorce process. Mr. Richmond was a Legal Elite Young Lawyer in 2012, 2014 and 2017 and 2014 and in 2015 in the Appellate Law category. He also has been on the Virginia Super Lawyers’ list 2018: Rising Stars five consecutive years, 2013-2017, and on the Best Lawyers® list for the first time in 2018. In 2014, he was named by Inside Business as one of the “Top Forty Under 40.” He has an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He also is fellow with the prestigious American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Ms. Thurston handles divorce, custody and spousal support issues as well as adoption for heterosexual and same-sex couples. In addition to her community work with Hampton Roads Pride, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Hampton Roads Community Foundation, Ms. Thurston was a 2018 CoVABiz Millennial on the Move and a 2017 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Hampton Roads Finest Honoree. She also was named a 2018 Coastal Virginia Magazine and CoVaBIZ Top Lawyer in Family Law.
