Andrew T. Richmond

Home/Andrew T. Richmond
Honest. Caring. Diligent.

Andrew T. Richmond has those qualities in spades, and he loves using them to help people move forward in a positive direction after experiencing what is oftentimes one of the most difficult times in their lives – the breaking up of a relationship.

Andrew, or Andy as friends and family call him, is a volunteer at heart – having learned from his parents the importance of helping people who haven’t had the same opportunities as he has had. That’s why he leads by example, serving as Samaritan House’s “100 Men,” as Chairman of the Social Services Advisory Board in Virginia Beach, and as Vice President of the Central Business District Association (CBDX). None of this stands in his way of being an exemplary lawyer in the field of family law – an area he has practiced in his entire career.

Andy adeptly resolves complex divorces involving the equitable distribution of complex assets, support and custody cases, through both contested litigation, negotiated agreements and the collaborative divorce process. He also handles a variety of other family-related matters, including Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court cases, paternity actions, Department of Human Services proceedings, and collaborative divorce.

Andy’s peers elected him to be included in Virginia Business magazine’s Legal Elite in 2012 and 2014 in the Young Lawyer category and in 2015 in the Appellate Law category. He also has been named to Virginia Super Lawyers: Rising Stars list seven consecutive years, 2013-2019. In 2014, Andy was selected by Inside Business as one of the “Top Forty Under 40” young businesspeople in Hampton Roads. He has an AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Andy also was recently inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), a group that promotes the highest degree of professionalism and excellence in the practice of family law. Andy passed AAML’s stringent standards for entry that included exclusive practice in the matrimonial field, belonging to the bar for a minimum of 10 years, competently handling complex matrimonial law litigation as lead counsel and passing the AAML National Matrimonial Law Exam.

Before receiving his law degree from the Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Andy completed his undergraduate studies at Missouri Western State University.

Prior to joining his first law firm, Andy clerked for the Honorable Robert J. Humphreys of the Court of Appeals of Virginia, which is the appellate court for all divorce and family law appeals in the Commonwealth.

Andy has three beautiful young sons who keep him busy. He also is active in St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
